The Orcas Island Historical Museums had big plans for our garden this year. The seeds had been ordered, weeding had started and we had started to implement ambitious plans for our heritage garden, developed after extensive consultation with our expert in plant history, Jean Dickerson. But like so much in the past two months, all garden work had to be put on hold.
Through the Orcas Food Co-operative, during the month of May, $ 1 of each curbside pickup box purchase and door-to-door delivery will go to support the Museum’s Heritage Garden. We are working to make the garden an exterior extension of the museum. The plant identifications and interpretive signage will detail the history of the plants in the garden. We have worked with the Garden Club, master gardeners and professional landscapers to ensure that the Heritage Garden will add some accessible beauty and history outside of our community.
