The LaGrange Southeast Regional has its roots in the LaGrange National Competition which began in 1964 when a competitive show known as the Gardens Art Festival was organized and sponsored by the Chattahoochee Valley Art Association, LaGrange College and Callaway Gardens.

In 1974 the competition moved to LaGrange, changed its name to LaGrange National, and was expanded from a regional show to a national show. In 1984, the competition expanded again and was presented in two locations, the Chattahoochee Valley Art Association Museum and the Lamar Dodd Art Center, LaGrange College.

Over the years, the LaGrange National has gained an excellent reputation with many distinguished jurors including Lloyd Goodrich, Richard Lahey, Carl Holty, Joseph Rishel, Larry Poons, Jane Livingston, Cynthia McCabe, Linda Cathcart, Ted Potter, Roy Slade, Henry Hopkins, Patterson Sims, Peter Mirin, Siri Engberg, Benny Andrews, Robert Lyon, Jane Jackson, Eleanor Heartney, J. Richard Gruber, Robert E. Steele, Annette Cone-Skelton, Deanna Sirlin, David Houston and Curlee Raven Holton.

The LaGrange Southeast Regional provides citizens of western Georgia and eastern Alabama with access to current artistic practice; offers artists exhibition and shopping opportunities; and provides the LaGrange Art Museum and the Lamar Dodd Art Center with a means to develop important collections of contemporary American art.


The categories include: Drawings, Paintings, Prints, Sculpture, Photography, Ceramics and Mixed media.

You must indicate which category your submission belongs to for each individual entry. You can enter more than one category, just be sure to include the category you selected as well as the detail requirements for each submission. Select the category for your job that you feel is appropriate.


The exhibition venues are the LaGrange Art Museum and the Lamar Dodd Art Center at LaGrange College. When you are informed if your work has been selected, you will also be informed of the location that will exhibit the work (s).


The fourth LaGrange Southeast Regional is a jury competition open to all Southeast artists over the age of 18. Eligible States: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. All work must be original and completed within the last two years. Sponsors are the final authority on eligibility.


The purchased works are added to the permanent collection of patrons. The juror will award merit prizes to a limited number of works.
