The Riverside Art Museum will feature an exhibition of 27 paintings and 18 drawings to help lead to the 2022 opening of the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Arts & Culture at the Riverside Art Museum.
The exhibition, titled âAre you with me? by artist Sonya Fe, will be in the Art Alliance gallery and part of the Cheech @ RAM series of exhibitions leading up to the new museum opening in May.
Fe’s work reflects social and cultural issues centered on women and children, according to a press release from the museum. The exhibition can be viewed from Saturday October 16 to February 13. She is sponsored by Betty and Walter Parks.
Art lovers may recall Fe’s “austere, almost grayscale drawings” from an exhibition at the museum in 2017, Todd Wingate, director of exhibitions and collections, said in a press release. . “In her portraits, however, Fe demonstrates a mastery of color, from her layering of deep, saturated hues to her use of pale translucent pigments.”
The title of the exhibition comes from Fe’s statement that she wanted “the viewer to be with me while viewing the work,” she said in the statement. âI want them to feel and see and understand what I’m saying – not to be left behind. I want to ask them, ‘Are you with me?’ “
An artists reception has been postponed until early 2022.
The museum’s opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm; and Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Admission is usually $ 5; $ 3 for students and seniors; and free for museum members, children under 12, military personnel (active or veteran) and their family members. Masks are compulsory to visit the museum.
The art museum will run the Cheech Marin Museum, which is slated to open on May 8, in the renovated old library in the city center.
The art museum is located at 3425 Mission Inn Ave., Riverside.
