The coolest museums in New York are hard to find. There is always something to experience in New York City that most can only witness once in their lifetime, whether it’s a coffee shop, a Broadway show, or maybe one of the coolest museums in the world. Visitors tend to appreciate the city’s many art institutions, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History, the New York-Historical Society and mahy more, which are must-see tours Yet few people have heard of or explored more of New York’s secret museums, leaving plenty of opportunities to plan a rewarding trip to see, for example, street art or native art. Here are the top 22 of the coolest museums in New York (in our humble opinion!)
1. Museum of interesting things
Maybe the one thing a museum doesn’t usually do is come to you instead of going there. The Museum of Interesting Things is an interactive traveling exhibition intended to educate and encourage the public, young and old, to become familiar with objects long before our present age. The public can engage by touching the objects to fully understand how these collectibles worked in the past. It all started when the founder Denny daniel wanted to use his own collection of hundreds of antiques and memorabilia during his freelance work, exhibiting some of his own works at the Chelsea Art Museum.
The Museum is educational, working with different age groups, from young students to seniors. They are also flexible in their creative endeavors and take to schools, libraries, parties and just about anywhere. They also organize general Speakeasy events including comedy and dance parties.
